Spending every summer of my childhood in the Windy City, I learned there was truly only one way to eat a hot dog. Even now I realize there are two types of people in this world- those who use ketchup and the ones who do it right. I refuse to even allow my kids to use the red condiment on their hot dogs. Blech.
When a favorite family member spent some time in Chicago recently, I told her she needed to eat a Chicago Style dog for me. And yes, I know Sonic now sells them and while they're pretty good, it's JUST.NOT.THE.SAME. Gimme a Street Vendor version any day. That family member? Did as she was asked and even sent me a picture of her hot dog in the airport. But then she took it a step further and cemented her place in my heart.

For dinner Thursday night, I got to enjoy one of my absolute favorite meals. It reminds me of childhood and summer. Plus, they taste simply delicious.

Next up comes a grilled all beef hot dog
And only mustard is allowed. No mayonnaise or ketchup. That's just sacrilegious to even think about.
Now the fun part and the reason it's said to be "Drug through the Garden." You add almost every veggie you can think of.
Onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, Chicago relish (it tastes the same but looks WAY greener than the regular stuff), a pickle spear and a sprinkling of celery salt.
And then you bite in and enjoy!
**This is not a sponsored post. Vienna Beef has no idea who I even am. I just really enjoy a properly made hot dog and loved my gift from my aunt.
