{Homemade} Sloppy Joe's

Sloppy Joe's are one of the go-to staple meals in this house.  They're cheap, quick and easy.  Plus? The kids love them.

Once I had planned on making them for dinner, but then quickly realized I didn't have any canned sauce.  You know the one: hint it's a sanWHICH for a MAN.
So I improvised and used things I already had in my kitchen.

It was a huge hit and now my kids request MY sauce instead of the canned kind.

Sloppy Joe's with {homemade} sauce
ingredients:
ketchup, approximately a cup
1/2 onion, diced
ground beef, 1-2 lbs
diced tomato, either fresh or canned
salt & pepper
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tablespoon olive oil

Directions:
Add olive oil to pan and saute onions and garlic until soft.

Add ground beef .

 Cook until done.

For the sauce::  You can prepare in a separate pot to allow to simmer.  In an effort to condense the number of dirty dishes, I simply add everything to the ground beef after it's browned.

Squeeze ketchup into meat mixture.  I said use a cup, but I always just add it until it looks like sauce-y.

Next add diced tomatoes and all seasonings.  Mix ingredients together.  Cook on low for 3-5 minutes.

Serve on a bun. Enjoy

Popular additions to the sandwich around her include sliced cheese and jalapenos.   They're almost always served with tater tots too.

Proof that my kids love this dish?  The oldest one has requested it as his birthday meal for at least two different birthdays.  That's love, people.
