Hope everyone is having an amazing Monday morning. At my house, it's our last week before school starts. It's one of those bittersweet moments because on one hand I can.not.wait to get back to my daily routine where I'm not constantly playing referee to 3 kids. On the other, I want summer to drag on a bit longer so we can do a few more things or take an extra vacation. Both of my sweet (sometimes) little boys are going to be in middle school.
Friday was spent cleaning out my closet (can't wait to share what I found) & then the rest of the weekend was spent around the house or with friends. Saturday, the hubby's friends wanted to grill out so we headed to the pool. After watching my boys and 5 grown men play in the water, it affirmed my thoughts that boys never really grow up, they just get bigger. I'm not really sure who had more fun- my kids begging to be thrown and dunked or the older ones actually doing it.
While the kids (even the grown ones) were having fun making waves, I alternated cooling off with laying out and reading. I started the Shopaholic series a few summers ago before the movie came out. LOVED IT! I had stopped by the library & picked up the last 4 books in the series I needed to finish last weekend. I read #2 & #3 on the way to & from the lake but read #4 & #5 at the pool. Yes, I read 2 books in one day. They're easy, light reading. They aren't THINKING books by any means, but I still enjoyed them. Probably more so because I could just enjoy the silliness.
At the urging of Hotpants, I picked up The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Oh my. I am so glad I listened.
The setting is a futuristic apocalyptic society where the government is in complete control. They monitor everyone and everything. Once a year, the people are forced to offer up 2 children to participate in a game where everyone fights to the death. When 16 year old Katniss' baby sister is selected, she offers herself up instead. She assumes it will be a death sentence, but instead makes some unlikely friends and changes her entire world.
The sequel, Catching Fire, is just as riveting. It's set after the initial Games and follows the lives of the winners as they attempt to make sense of their new life.
There is a third installment due out at the end of August. I can't wait to find out how it ends. Liongate has also picked up the rights for a movie of the first book. I hope they do a better job than Summit did when they made Twilight. Production companies need to have a better appreciation of their audience.
So, if anyone is keeping up.. I've read 5 books in the span of 3 days.
Have any of my fellow readers joined or heard of Goodreads? A few people have recommended it and I finally joined.
You can click on that & find me.

I love that series. I need to read The Hunger Games...I have heard it's really good from more than one person!
I love the Shopaholic series. I think I still need Shopaholic and Baby.
The other series looks good as well, even if the premise sounds terrifying.
I have heard great things about all those books and havent read any of them yet. I need to get on it! I have a few books downloaded to read and will have add these to my list next time around!
You convinced me! The Hunger Games is officially on my reading list! I'm a Shelfari girl myself, but from your description it sounds about like your Goodreads. I love it for keeping up with all the books I've read and which ones are still on my list.
I loved all of the Shopaholic books. If you haven't read any of Jane Green's books, you should. They're fluffy, but still really good.
I read all the Shopaholic books years ago over the span of like 48 hours. I don't even think I got up to use the bathroom...that's how engrossed I was in them.
You are like the 10th person who has told me I should read Hunger Games this week. And what do you know...I'm going on an airplane in the morning. Guess what book I'm buying this afternoon?
