My fair lazy: review

LOVED IT! I don't know why I haven't heard of Jen Lancaster before now, but I'm so glad a friend from high school DEMANDED that I pick up a copy of one of her books.

Not only does she love her plaid & is a former sorority girl, but also loves her adult beverages, lives in a fantastic city, uses sarcasm like some people breathe &; is a devout Republican.

The book is a memoir about a time in her life (after watching too much reality TV) where she decides she's become complacent. Although she's intelligent, the hours spent in front of the TV have killed a few brain cells. She isn't able to carry on an adult conversation without referring to some pop culture icon or event. Case in point: at a dinner party with a cultured girlfriend, Jen is meeting the friend's high school crush. She can't help herself but to tell said man that he was the friend's Jake Ryan. Needless to say, the man had no clue who that was or had ever seen "16 Candles". To prove her point, she has the man walk around the room to ask every woman about Jake Ryan to prove that every female will know what it is. The discussions in the room change from the ongoing war and stock market prices to John Hughes' impact on their lives.

When entering her journey to becoming more cultured, she enlists the help of her many well-rounded friends.  Each friend plays a role and helps Jen while she goes to various types of plays, an opera, a stay at a fancy hotel and even plans to "eat her way around the world" to enjoy a variety of ethnic food.   I laughed through the entire book and when I was finished- I felt like I had made a friend for life.    I can't wait to pick up her other memoirs to read.
